"Bombastes Furioso". -
In vain we roared; in vain we tried
To rouse her into laughter:
Her pensive glances wandered wide
From orchestra to rafter-
"Tier upon tier!" she said, and sighed;
And silence followed after.
Did she perchance write this in the year 1940? And if so, was her subject matter (in part) perhaps the bleakness of the 2nd world war? Merely curious . . .
cheers, d.i.
ps: I did a moment's googling, seems this hunch was correct.
If I read a book
And it makes my whole body
So cold no fire can ever warm me,
I know that is poetry.
-- Emily Dickinson
About Us
A public Poetry Blog where members can post poems and/or their commentaries and conduct discussions. This group is a feeble attempt to keep
alive our aesthetic senses, especially for English literature. A small caveat: it would be good if we could refrain from posting our original
works (poems written by us); Melancholetta wouldn't want to malign the chances of budding unpublished poets!
If you came across this blog and would like to contribute your favourite poems or your commentaries on them as a member, please send out an
email to dileepan@gmail.com or just leave a comment in our comment board. You will soon be added to our members list.
